Custom Work

I am quickly realizing that my favorite type of jewelry-making is custom work. Something about trying to capture the essence of another person, or their vision is creatively challenging to me and pulls not just on my crafting skills, but also on my intuition. I love to see how accurate both were in the end and am grateful to be doing well so far.

I recently created a piece for a woman who told me she wanted a wire-wrapped gemstone necklace in the color scheme of bright greens, reds, and blues. Although this is not unusual, it did make me think about the color pallets I normally use and how this order was expanding my horizons since I had never made jewelry with that color combination before. I finished her piece and was immediately inspired to create another necklace much different in style, but using a combination of bold red through red coral branches and blue/green with turquoise.

My customer really liked how her necklace turned out and I really like what it inspired me to create afterward. I am thankful for this experience and the ways in which it helped me to expand as a jewelry designer. In the end, I benefited just as much as my customer did and hope to turn around and use this inspiration to procure many more happy customers!
